Boѕton Red Sox рroѕрeсt Shаne Drohаn рromoted to Trірle-A

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Shane Drohan made headlines this offseason when it was reported that he added a cutter and some velocity to his fastball.

The left-handed pitcher was coming off a strong season between High-A and Double-A. Adding a new pitch and some velocity boosted the hype around him.

Would it make much of a difference, though?

Through six games in Double-A in 2023, the lefty has a 1.32 ERA, .161 BAA, and 0.82 WHIP. He’s struck out 36 batters and walked nine in 34 innings. That has all led to a 5-0 record for Drohan.

Boston Red Sox prospect Shane Drohan was promoted to Triple-A

On Monday, it also led to something else. According to Chris Henrique of Beyond the Monster, the Boston Red Sox have promoted Shane Drohan to Triple-A after such a dominant start.

Drohan’s advancing past Double-A with just 58 innings at the level under his belt. That seems low, but it just shows you how much faith the organization has in the left-handed pitcher.

It is also important to note that Drohan is a College pitcher. He spent time at Florida State. So while it is a quick promotion, the 24-year-old has plenty of experience. College players tend to move through the minor leagues at a much faster pace.

Drohan last pitched on May 10, which means he could pitch very early in the week. We should see his Triple-A debut either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Shane Drohan has shot up the prospect rankings. He is considered by many to be the top pitching prospect in the Boston Red Sox system and in their top-five overall. Don’t be shocked if he makes an appearance on the top 100 overall at some point, either.

It looks like the Boston Red Sox might have hit a home run when they drafted Shane Drohan in the fifth round back in 2020. He’s made adjustments and improved his pitches, and we’re all seeing the fruits of his hard work.
